THE RISING by Hartman by sideshowmonkey THE RISING by Hartman by sideshowmonkey
Between directing "Winnie the Pooh" and some upcoming comics I'm working on I haven't had much time to draw for myself.

Tonight I got to doodle while watching TV and liked what came out so I had to throw some color on it. It was a pretty quick piece, about 3 hours total, but I like how it turned out.

A bit of a Lovecraft influence on this one.

:lmao: I think the more sweet, cuddly Pooh you direct, the more twisted your horror stuff gets. Great blend of, well, categories of camp.

Wow, really nice! the coloring, the composition, it all looks great. Sometimes the quick work can be as good as or better than the stuff that takes forever... In my case, it always takes longer than it should. Keep up the great work, your stuff is always top notch!

Ha! I got tons and tons of crappy stuff. I may post them sometime but I hate spending time on things I don't like. If I usually don't like it I just push it aside and start the next thing.

I was just sitting here watching Bride of Re-Animator on Scream when I checked out my Watch List and here this was.

Sweet work, I can see the Lovecraft influence in this as you said.

I see I'm not the only one who likes to give a gothic swing to Lovecraftian monster designs. (Though my scanner's been busted so I couldn't upload any of it!! :rage: )

It kinda looks like you gave the Cthulhu being at the top fur (which is a novel idea I've never seen before), though that could be just a shadow effect. Either way it looks cool! The mummy girl adds a nice contrast. Her blue coloring and the blue-purple glow effects against the blacks and reds of the rest of the pic give the piece a really eerie and dream-like quality! This is without a doubt one of your best!

Thanks! :D That means a lot to hear. Yea, I thought it would be different to add some fur around the neck of the Cthulhu creature. I think it looks kind of cool.

You're quite welcome! :aww: I really do like the idea with the fur. Most people (including myself) would have never thought to do that. People don't usually think of fur when they think of Lovecraft's creatures. It's usually all slime and tenticles. It looks very cool indeed!

Winnie the Pooh!? Does that mean we get to see Tigger chopping up Christopher Robin and he comes back from the dead as an undead warrior?

Seriously, you're directing Winnie the Pooh? TV animation or movie? This is gonna be awesome. I might just tune in to the morning cartoons the next weekend.

It is for TV, preschool, and should be out in May on the Disney Channel. It looks really good so far.

I have been directing cartoons for awhile and have a bunch of stuff out. Like, Roughnecks:Starship Troopers, Godzilla Animated, Jackie Chan and I did the character designs for the Spiderman MTV.

Check 'em out if you get a chance.
