SKUNKAPE by David Hartman by sideshowmonkey SKUNKAPE by David Hartman by sideshowmonkey
This is an older piece where I wanted to experiment using snow and bigfoot. I still like how it came out.

I also wish to prove Bigfoots existance, but I don't really want to capture it, so as not to put it under emotional stress and/or get my arms ripped off. I just want to get a valid piece of film.

Do you ever get comments saying anything along the lines of "this is utter shit, I suggest you stop doing this"?
They're always so very nice and encouraging, but I know there are some horrible jerks out there.
But he is real.

Yea, every now and then you get something where you just scratch your head but I ry to not take it too seriously. I just like to draw and tell stories and have fun doing it. Once it is not fun and you feel like it is either a job or some sort of crusade to be the best artist in the world I lose all interest in it. :D

Y'know, I bet that'd be illegal. There is no skunk-ape season, and if they were to be proven real, they'd probably be put on the endangered species list.

But hot damn, wouldn't that look nice hangin on yer wall!

I was out in the wood a lot but I'm sure the camera crews scared him off. They don't seem to like cameras for some reason.

I know nothing of it, but my brother has a weird obsession with skunk ape. O_o'' He's always hearing noises or smelling something outside and claiming skunk ape is after him. O_o'''

I am completely smitten with your artwork, brilliant skills and imagination, especially your obvious affection for lesser-known inspirational source material . *pantpuffftpantphhhffft!* Sorry! I'm trying to put some distance between me and your fantastic rendition of Skunk Ape. I need to cut down on the coffin nails...AGGGGHHHHKKK! The stench is incredible...kinda like CAT-BREATH and summertime dumpsters...
I came across your gallery by happy accident-and am loving every moment of it.

Real good job at setting a scene and mood...and there's not enough Bigfoot-inspired art out there for my liking. I can see a Jack Davis influence here (Tales from the Crypt era), especially in the linework. Lots of motion.

Thank you. That Jack Davis reference is one of the highest compliments I ever received. This skunkape picture is one of my all-time favorite pieces I did, I think it was a turning point in my art. It was originally just a sketch drawn with a ball-point pen on xerox paper, but I kept adding to it and then decided to color it up.

You're welcome. I admire your ability to drop these characters into the right environment (and not just concentrate on the figure). Cool stuff.
